Kangaroo at Rest
Scan supplied by Alistair Taylor
CT159954 is parked on a street in a nameless town somewhere in the Netherlands, early 1945. Note the Daimler Dingo scout car passing the other way, loaded down with what looks like German prisoners. The large speaker on the side of the Dingo has either been 'liberated', or indicates that the vehicle belongs to the headquarters wallahs of whatever division has moved into town.
The Kangaroo is loaded down with crates believed to contain the infamous "10-in-One" rations (British and Canadian rations were barely tolerable at any time). This may well be a B-Squadron vehicle returning from a 'provisioning' sortie on behalf of its mates; as the two squadrons were working independently with both British and Canadian formations, supply at the best of times was irregular, and the Kangaroos, as with all Canadian troops, were considered highly efficient scroungers!  The Kangaroo trooper on the sidewalk looks like he's been caught by surprise...
One of the things we hope to accomplish is to identify all Kangaroo vehicles by number and crew - records are unfortunately sparse, and this endeavour will depend mostly on personal photographs and memories. Can you help? If there are any identifying names or designations on any photos you might see, please record them!
