OTHER KANGAROO VEHICLES
In Support of a Regiment at War
While the original incarnation of the Kangaroos limited itself - by dictate - to 72 Priests and drivers, the new Regiment and its more formal structure permitted auxillary vehicles and associated personnel. Ranging from jeeps to lorries to armoured reconnaissance vehicles, these reflected the Regiment's new standing and mission, and they played a crucial role in the following success of the Regiment through the spring of 1945.

With the authorization of a formal Kangaroo 'squadron' on 28 Aug 44 came the authorization for one jeep, four scout cars, three lorries and a water trailer (in addition to four troops of twenty-five Kangaroos each). These were to be under the command of a captain, whose primary duty, after taking care of his men, was coordinating with the regiments his unit was to lift. He and his troop lieutenants were tasked with an awesome responsibility to ensure that their limited resources were utilized in the most appropriate fashion, in what can best be described as a chaotic situation...

Much more shortly - stay tuned!
