| We've added a page giving
due and proper credit to some of the people who have worked tirelessly
on the Kangaroo project. Please accord them the appropriate respect! Without
their help and encouragement, this would be 'just another' website. Thank
you all! Please click here for CREDITS. |
| Also added today is a second
page in the GALLERY,
with four new photos. Work continues on a variety of supplements for the
1CACR site. Please stay tuned! |

new GUESTBOOK

do with the Regiment in general. Please take the time to leave your comments! |

| While our site is not quite
complete, it will be shortly - but enjoy what's here! It will be of some
interest to note that our resident Archivist, Clive Law (of SERVICE
PUBLICATIONS) has, to-date, unearthed the
names of almost 400 members of the Regiment! These will be added to our
database in due course, but we still endeavouring to assemble as complete
a nominal role as we can. If you can suggest any names, we would be very
grateful to hear from you. |

| Well, in the weeks since
our last update, quite a lot has been going on behind the scenes. For one
thing, you will note the new, simplified web address for this site! The
costs for this domain conversion and the hosting on a new server have been
born with pleasure by MAPLE
LEAF UP as a service to 1CACR. In the interim,
development work on this site has been proceeding, albeit slowly, but we
are not being lax! Numerous individuals have been donating a great deal
of time and effort to unearth information about the Regiment; we anticipate
a fairly substantial database of information before we're done! |

| As part of our endeavour
to ensure that the accomplishments of the 1st Canadian Armoured [Personnel]
Carrier Regiment are forever enshrined in the annals of the history of
the Canadian Army Overseas, MAPLE
LEAF UP intends the ultimate establishment
of a permanent museum exhibit which will record the experiences and triumphs
of the Regiment for generations to come. While this will take some time
to realize, it is important now to establish the location and availability
of as much Kangaroo memorabilia as possible, to ensure that it be preserved
for inclusion into these exhibits. |
| If you have, or know of,
uniforms, paraphenalia, photographs or any other artifacts relating to
the Canadian Kangaroos, please consider donating them accordingly. Arrangements
can be made to hold these items In Trust should you desire; they will constitute
the focal point of the Regiment remembered in perpetuity. Please CONTACT
US for further information. Thank you. |

Nov 1999 |
| Welcome to the official
site for the 1st Canadian Armoured [Personnel] Carrier Regiment! On this
page we will keep you up-to-date on people, places and events associated
with the Canadian Kangaroos. |
| The annual gathering of
Veterans was held this year on November 11th, at Katz's Delicatessen on
Dufferin Street in Toronto (many thanks to the owner and staff for their
splendid support!). Chaired by the tag-team of Harry 'Tatch' Tatchell and
Ken Ramsden, this year's meeting comprised approximately 25 Kangaroos and
Friends, and was videotaped for the first time. |
| MAPLE
LEAF UP was honoured to have been invited
to address the group on the subject of the Regiment's exposure on the World
Wide Web. First, we distributed bound colour copies of a document demonstrating
some of the material which has found its way onto the internet, along with
a letter of introduction; both the package and our address was well-received
by the rank-and-file, and thereafter, we were privileged to have been included
in a unique round of boisterous discussion on various aspects of life in
the Regiment and beyond. |
| One of the topics discussed
informally was the genesis of a proper Association for the Kangaroos, along
with the dedication of a permanent memorial to the Regiment here in Canada.
In concept, this was approved by all in attendance, and discussions are
underway as you read this, on the subject of the best way to accomplish
this mission. |
| Our personal perception
is that this action is long overdue, and should be taken as soon as possible.
To this end, MAPLE
LEAF UP is dedicating its not inconsiderable
resources and contacts towards realizing the goal of forever perpetuating
the memory of the Regiment, its men and their accomplishments, through
such media as can be arranged. |
| One of our first and most
significant duties in service of the Regiment, remains the establishment
of a database containing the names and particulars of every man who served
in the Kangaroos, from August 1944 onwards. This will be a daunting endeavour,
as surviving records are anything but complete; but we seek to fill in
the gaps as we can. The men of the Regiment will be remembered. |
| In addition, we seek to
establish contact with as many surviving members as possible, through whatever
sources we can unearth. Should you know of any former Kangaroo, please
CONTACT
US immediately. Likewise, should you have
information on even those who may have passed away, we would humbly request
that you put us in contact with surviving relations, that we might record
the names and relevant information for posterity. |
| Please stay tuned to this
page for further details of this endeavour. All interested parties are
welcome to contribute their own ideas, comments and suggestions - please
for information on how to contact us! |
| The Canadian Kangaroos will
not
be forgotten. |
| Thank you again, and Welcome! |
